When The Spirit Comes

As far back as I can remember I have been interested in healing ministry.  I could never understand why the Bible talked about healing and it’s relevance to the preaching of the gospel, yet we saw very few results.  And to further destroy the possibility that God could possibly move in such an incredible way, we came up with a bunch of reasons why God doesn’t heal people today.  The Bible talks about faith being involved in healing and we definitely didn’t have a lot of faith.  I do not want to dwell on the negative attitudes of the past.  Instead I want to share a sparking moment in my journey of believing that God can and does heal today.

It began with one little book I found tucked away in a dark, dusty Anglican church library.  It was called “When The Spirit Comes”, written by Colin Urquhart.  It chronicles his journey into the supernatural as an Anglican Priest and the beginning of a healing ministry within his church.  When I picked up this book  I was skeptical of this type of phenomenon happening in a Pentecostal church, never mind an Anglican church!  It was one of the key beginning moments where my heart began to long for more and to actually believe that there was more available than I had ever imagined.  That was nearly 10 years ago and today I am seeing the reality of God’s power at work in amazing ways.

In the last 6 months we have seen a number of miracles.  One man we prayed for had terrible kidney stones.  As we prayed for him, he felt heat in the area where the pain was.  After we finished praying he could feel no pain.  He went to the doctor to have it checked and after a couple ultrasounds, the doctor was unable to explain what had taken place.  The kidney stones were gone!

Another lady we prayed for was stuck in an addiction (I’m not sure for how many years).  We prayed and broke the power of the addiction over her and she has been free ever since!

There is also a sweet senior lady of 92 years of age, who regularly needs prayer.  We’ve prayed for her numerous times and seen God’s power work in her.  Most recently she had fallen at home and hit her back on the corner of the wall.  At an evening meeting we prayed for her back and after we had prayed there was no change…however on the drive home from the church, she began to feel heat all over her back and by the time she got home there was no pain at all!

The supernatural power of God is truly amazing and working with a God who has such love and compassion for His people is wild!  It is such an exciting journey that we are on as we travel through what Watchman Nee called “The Ordinary Christian Life”.

Another lady received healing in her jaw.  The cartilage was wearing away and the joint had been bone on bone and she would be in pain whenever she talked, whenever she ate.  She was on some pretty heavy anti-inflammatories and pain killers in order to deal with the pain.  We had prayed for her on occasion, I don’t remember if we specifically prayed for her jaw, but then she went away on a three month vacation and forgot her pain medication at home.  She was without it for three months and has not had any pain since nor has she taken any medication!

There’s more to tell, but that’s all for now!  God is alive today and wants to pour out His compassion upon humanity.

A Major Grace Awakening

Grace…a word that the church has treasured and for good reason.  How would one truly live without grace.  For that matter how would the church even exist without grace.  The apostle Paul writes, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God”  (Eph 2:8).  For 34 years of my life I associated grace largely with this verse…and I believe I was right to do so.  This is a defining verse!  It points to the most amazing thing to take place in the history of time.  Love came crashing into humanity in the form of Jesus Christ, changing the course of history forever.  The people living in darkness had seen a great light!  Boom!  It is finished.

Grace

Saved from my sins, freed from the sting of death.  For 34 years i knew what I was saved from, I just didn’t know what I was saved to.  When I finally woke up and really found out there was more to the Christian life I felt as though I had been duped!  It was if someone had played a really cruel trick on me that was keeping me from breaking through into a life of freedom and power.  I had started my adventure with God (after 34 years I would hope so!) but without understanding the fullness of the work of Grace my endurance level would crash into nothing…why?  Because I was working FOR grace, instead of FROM grace.  I was working in hopes of receiving God’s love instead of living From the love that He freely gives (He can give it for free, because He paid the price!).  I am beginning to understand and walk in all that God has made available through grace.

Grace

I now realize how much I have been saved to!  Grace has opened the door of sonship.  Grace has opened the door of authority.  Grace has opened the door of love.  Grace has enabled me to live a life of superatural power.  Grace has allowed me to know the heart of God.  Grace, Grace, Grace…

Grace!

The possibilities are endless….on earth as it is in heaven! (Matt 6:10)
